Musically Al Jarreau was influenced by singers like Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Jon Hendricks or Ella Fitzgerald. When he recorded his first record (We Got By) he was already 35 years old. Before that he completed his studies in psychology and worked as a social worker. Further successful records followed and in the course of his career he was awarded numerous prizes for his outstanding vocal quality.
