Pablo Records was founded by Norman Granz, who had previously founded and managed the legendary jazz label Verve. For the financing of Pablo Records he sold some pictures of his favourite painter Picasso, after which the label was named. Among the musicians Pablo Records released were Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Count Basie, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie and Sarah Vaughan.
