Louis Armstrong's musical development began in the 1920s in New Orleans, where he contributed decisively to the development of the so-called New Orleans-Jazz. The big band sound of jazz orchestras such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie or Benny Goodmann was predominant in this period. Armstrong led this sound from collective improvisation to the exposed solo. Technically, he set standards for jazz trumpeters of that time and all that followed, especially in the 1920s. In addition to countless records that he released solo, he also played the trumpet on numerous recordings of other artists such as Bessie Smith, Earl Hines, Bing Crosby or Duke Ellington.
